MULTIBODY SYSTEMS AND NONLINEAR DYNAMICS (MSND)

The purpose of the Technical Committee on Multibody Systems and Nonlinear Dynamics (TC-MSND) is to promote research, application, and education in experimental, symbolic, computational, and analytical activities pertaining to multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics and related technical areas. The TC-MSND serves as a body whose goal is to organize conferences, aid the ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, and foster meetings, student competitions and awards. Each of these provides a means for the exchange of new ideas and applications in computational, rigid and flexible multibody system dynamics and all aspects (analytical, numerical, and experimental) of dynamics associated with nonlinear systems. The broad scope of the TC-MSND is manifest in the diversity of its members and in the breadth of their experience and applications interests. These are reflected in the associated ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics which encompasses all computational and nonlinear problems occurring in aerospace, automotive, biological, electrical, mechanical, physical, and structural systems.

HONORS & AWARDS

In conjunction with the ASME International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics and Control, organized as part of the odd-year ASME IDETC/CIE meetings, the TC-MSND presents the d'Alembert and Lyapunov awards in recognition of lifelong contributions to the fields of multibody system dynamics and nonlinear dynamics, respectively. The awards emphasize impact of research contributions, education and training of researchers and/or practitioners, and overall leadership in advancing the corresponding field.

A call for nominations is disseminated broadly (and also made available through a link on this page) during the spring and summer of the preceding year. Nominations should include 1) a nomination letter describing the field of, and the impact of the nominee, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) up to five letters of support. All nomination materials must be submitted in electronic (pdf) format.

CALL FOR PAPERS

As part of the odd-year ASME IDETC/CIE meetings, the TC-MSND sponsors the ASME International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics and Control (MSNDC). This event is a premier venue for professional networking and research exchange across the multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics technical community. The conference supports dissemination of fundamental research in the enabling disciplines as well as research targeting the application to engineered or naturally occurring mechanical systems across all length and time scales.

MSNDC is a forum for

  1. recognizing recent research in multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics that is original and of broad appeal;
  2. recognizing nascent efforts to bring the methods of multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics to novel areas of application;
  3. disseminating application-oriented integration of existing results and methods of multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics;
  4. raising the visibility of research and educational efforts in multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics; and
  5. sustaining the vitality of the multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics professional community.

The 9th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control will be held in conjunction with the ASME 2013 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences in Portland, OR., USA, August 4-7, 2013.

THE ASME JOURNAL OF COMPUTATIONAL AND NONLINEAR DYNAMICS

The TC-MSND sponsors the ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics (JCND). The purpose of the journal is to provide a medium for rapid dissemination of original research results in theoretical as well as applied computational and nonlinear dynamics. The journal serves as a forum for the exchange of new ideas and applications in computational, rigid and flexible multi-body system dynamics and all aspects (analytical, numerical, and experimental) of dynamics associated with nonlinear systems. The broad scope of the journal encompasses all computational and nonlinear problems occurring in aeronautical, biological, electrical, mechanical, physical, and structural systems. The journal publishes full-length original contributions, review articles and Technical Briefs on these topics and related areas.
