The Executive Committee (EC) is responsible for managing the affairs of the Division and providing an interface with the Society at-large. Plans are coordinated by the EC with guidance offered by an advisory board comprised of past officers of the division with industrial, academic, and government input.
The EC consists of five members selected from the membership of the Society. Prior to January 1st of each year, the EC nominates to the Basic Engineering Technical Group a new EC member. The term of office is five years. The EC is organized as follows: first year - secretary, second year - IMECE program representative, third year - FEDSM conference chair, fourth year - chair, and fifth year, senior member.
The EC is responsible for the promotion of the interest and activities of the Fluids Engineering Division including the following :
- Program Planning: The EC provides for the planning and organization of Division meetings and cooperates with other Divisions in the planning and organizing of joint sessions and joint conferences, and securing papers for presentation at Division meetings.
- Paper and Publication Review: The EC provides for the review of all papers, etc., submitted to the Division to insure the maintenance of quality consistent with Society standards. The EC nominates the Technical Editor of the Journal of Fluids Engineering and oversees all aspects of Journal publication.
- Nominations and Honors: The EC provides for the preparation and maintenance of lists of suitable candidates for various Division and Society offices.
- Technical Development: The EC provides for the organization and promotion of specialized technical interests and activities within the Division. To assist with this responsibility, appropriate Technical Committees (TC) and Coordinating Groups (CG) have been established. These TCs and CGs conduct their activities in accordance with their own operating procedures, approved by the EC.
The EC meets in formal session during each FED Summer Meeting and IMECE. Each TC and CG chair is expected to attend the session at specified times, or send an alternate, to report on activities of the TC or CG, and to assist in planning for future meetings. All EC meetings, unless otherwise indicated, are open to all members of the Society.
