Technical Committees

Committee member contacts are in the process of being updated for this term. Please check back.

The ASME Process Industry Division's Industrial Compressor Application Technical Committee aim's  to create a unique platform for bringing together industry, user, utility, government and academia for discussion and exchange of ideas and experiences through an annual conference at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE).

The focused areas of interest are research, product development, application and trouble-shooting related to industrial compressors used in refineries, petrochemical plants, fertilizer plants, steel mills, air separation plants, refrigeration systems and natural gas stations. Industrial compressors of interest are:
1)    Horizontally-Split Casing Compressors used for low and medium pressure services in ethylene plants, lube oil plants, refineries, refrigeration, air compression, etc.
2)    Vertically-split Casing Compressors used for high pressure services such as ammonia, urea and methanol synthesis, refinery recycle, natural gas compression and injection.
3)    Pipeline Compressors used for low and medium pressure ratio wide range of applications and in some recycle services such as in methanol plants, ethylene oxide plants, etc.
4)    Integrally-geared Packaged Compressors with high pressure per stage for heavy duty air and gas services
5)    Cryogenic Cold Gas Compressors for process hydrogen, nitrogen, natural gas, and helium at low temperatures approaching 5 K (-450° F).
6)    Application of magnetic bearings and high speed direct drive technology in the Gas Industry.

HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER SYSTEMS COMMITTEE

The Heat and Mass Transfer Systems Committee facilitates technical sessions and panel discussions, typically at the yearly ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exhibition (IMECE), in areas of interest to the process industry and related industrial and academic fields.  These areas include high temperature heat exchangers, thermal and mechanical stress issues for heat and mass transfer devices, heat and mass transfer equipment thermal analysis, boilers, cooling towers, etc.
