The Ethics and Technology Program Committee (a.k.a. the E&T Committee) produces and delivers content on technical subjects related to engineering ethics and ethical practices used in making technological and design decisions that influence and affect society. E&T Committee members consider ethical issues related to the interplay of engineering technology and society while serving as an integral part of the T&S Division matrix organization. Content produced by the committee includes technical information exchange, documents, recognition, outreach and other activities related to ethical issues in the engineering profession. The committee strives to foster communication among mechanical engineers, technical professionals, engineering students, and the general public to disseminate technical content to a global audience for increased awareness and understanding. The Committee will work in collaboration with related organizations (internal and external to ASME) in order to accomplish its mission.
Membership Applications for committee membership are welcome from ASME members interested in these subject areas. Join discussions about Ethics and Licensure issues online in the ASME communities of practice site at http://peerlink.asme.org/COP/EthicsandLicensing/
Topics in Engineering Ethics and Technology On-line Book Reviews/Seminars The Technology and Society Division invites you to participate in on-line book reviews with prominent authors discussing their work. Real world examples of issues related to engineering ethics and society cover a wide range of industries, as well as background information and views from experts in the field.
The authors provide valuable interpretive coments on their work and related research, revealing the lessons to be learned. The book reviews discuss common threads and conclusions from the author's investigations and provides an excellent reference for further study.
ASME members who need professional development hours (PDH's) to maintain a P.E. license or other professional certification should check the rules of their appropriate professional body to see if participation in an on-line seminar will qualify for PDH's. ASME student members and the general public are also welcomed and encouraged to participate in the discussions.
