Background Information

The Bioengineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) will hold the 2008 Summer Bioengineering Conference on June 25-29, 2008 at Marco Island, one of Florida’s premier gulf coast resorts and conference centers.

Since 1993, the Summer Bioengineering Conference has been a forum for informal interactions and exchange of ideas among new and experienced members of the bioengineering community. In a uniquely relaxed atmosphere, the Conference provides an outstanding venue for researchers, educators and students, bioengineers, biologists and clinicians from industry, academia and clinical organizations - for state-of-the-art and in depth discussions.

Based on the attendance figures from last year's meeting at Keystone CO, this year we are expecting 800+ scientists and students from around the world. Most conference attendees have a professional background in bioengineering and the biomedical sciences and hold positions in academic institutions. The typical purchasing power of conference attendees ranges from $5,000 to $500,000. Please see the Call for Papers, which provides a more detailed description of the professional background of conference attendees, as reflected in the titles of the planned scientific sessions.

Sponsorship, Exhibition, and Advertising Options

The conference organizers invite sponsors at a range of levels depending on their interests and needs. A brief table of the different options is provided below, with details following. These costs are applicable for non-exclusive sponsorships of these events. Please contact us if you would like to have exclusive sponsorship of a particular event. Note that sponsorship of events is on a first-come, first-serve basis. We welcome other sponsorship ideas; please contact us with your suggestions.

An advertiser may select any one for $500, any two for $750, or all three for $1000.

Premier Sponsor ($5,000)

The Premier Sponsor is the highest level of sponsorship for the meeting. It includes a prominent 4 ft x 6 ft exhibition table for the duration of the meeting; the opportunity to set up a large banner or poster in a prominent location for the reception and banquet; direct recognition by the conference organizer at both these events; and all advertising modes described below.  In addition, a Premier Sponsor received three complimentary registrations, allowing a strong representative presence at the meeting. The sponsor's logo will be displayed prominently on the conference web site and program, with recognition of the sponsorship.

Premier Sponsors may also select one scientific session of interest as their "sponsored session." The sponsor will have the opportunity to post a banner or poster in the session room. Session sponsors will be recognized by the session moderators, and sponsorship will be acknowledged in the conference program list of the session.

Exhibitor ($1,500)

Sponsorship of an exhibit includes the opportunity to set up a 4 ft x 6 ft table and display, for the entire duration of the conference, in the vicinity of the conference presentation rooms and poster session areas.  Conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit the booths at all times of the day, including coffee breaks, lunch breaks, between sessions and during sessions. Sponsorship of an exhibit also includes the opportunity to include a sponsor's logo with acknowledgment of sponsorship in the conference program booklet, the electronic CD-ROM proceedings of the conference, and the conference web site. Exhibitors receive a complimentary conference registration.

Event Patron ($2,500)

The banquet reception and banquet will be held at the Marriott Resort. All registered conference attendees and their families will be invited to attend the banquet. In addition to the exhibitor benefits described above, sponsorship of the banquet or the banquet reception includes the opportunity to set up a large banner or poster in a prominent location for the duration of the event; direct acknowledgment of sponsorship by the conference organizers during the opening and closing remarks of the session; and a second complementary registration. The sponsor's logo will be displayed prominently on the conference web site and program, with recognition of the sponsorship.

Student Award Sponsor ($1000)

Top student research presenters at the meeting are recognized at the meeting banquet and receive a cash award. Last year’s conference in Keystone CO featured 184 presentations by bioengineering students at the BS, MS, and PhD levels. Awards are categorized by student level (BS, MS, PhD), area (e.g., Cell and Tissue Engineering, Solid Mechanics and Rehabilitation), and presentation type (poster, podium). Each award sponsor will be recognized at the banquet during the reading of the award winners, and will be acknowledged in the conference program for their support. Although the student award sponsorship does not include registration, sponsors are encouraged to send a representative and to contact Prof. Gounis about a possible registration discount for a representative.

Travel Expenses and Accommodations

Sponsors are responsible for all expenses and travel arrangements to the conference site. Sponsors' representatives not using complimentary registrations are required to pay the conference registration fee, which includes the ability to attend all scientific sessions, a copy of the conference proceedings, the opening reception, the reception during poster sessions, the banquet reception and the banquet. Special room rates have been secured at the Marco Island Marriott for conference attendees, including sponsor representatives, subject to availability.
