The purpose of the Technical Committee on Vibration and Sound (TCVS) is to foster activities pertaining to vibration, sound, and related technical areas.  This committee has been an active part of the Design Engineering Division for many years, with our efforts focused on several main activities:

• to organize the biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise at the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and provide overall IDETC leadership (and often the general conference chair)
• to promote symposia and sessions at other ASME and partner organization events (for example, at the annual ASME IMECE)
• to manage the ASME Journal of Vibration and Acoustics
• to identify, screen, and select recipients of the Den Hartog and Myklestad awards

HONORS & AWARDS

The Technical Committee on Vibration and Sound (TCVS) of the ASME Design Engineering Division solicits nominations for the J. P. Den Hartog and the N. O. Myklestad awards.  These awards are presented at the ASME Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, as part of the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences.

The J. P. Den Hartog Award, established in 1987, is presented in recognition of lifetime contributions to the teaching and practice of vibration engineering.

The N. O. Myklestad Award, established in 1991, is presented in recognition of a major innovative contribution to vibration engineering.

Nominations are submitted to the TCVS Awards Subcommittee Chair and important deadlines will be posted when available.
