How we're organized . . .

The Rail Transpoiration Division work is carried forward by a number of committees.  See the Division Bylaws for more details. Participation in their work will develop and sharpen your managerial and technical skills. Where do you fit in ?

Executive Committee
A five member Executive Committee handles the affairs of the Division. To serve on the Executive Committee, you must have served on one of the Division’s operating committees.

Operating Committees
Nine other committees carry out specific portions of the Division’s activities, working under the general direction of the Executive Committee:

General Committee - works closely with the Executive Committee to determine the plans and directions of the Division. Members include the chairs of all operating committees (see below), plus representatives of other phases of the Division’s work.

Advisory Committee - consists of the 5 most recent Division Chair whose experience is retained as a service to the current Division leadership.

Technical Programs and Papers Committee - coordinates the selection of papers and the preparation of programs of technical sessions.

Progress Report Committee - produces an annual summary report on progress in railway and rapid transit mechanical engineering.

Membership Development Committee - encourages railroad industry engineers and rapid transit mechanical engineering to join ASME and the Rail Transportation Division.

Awards Committee - considers and recommends members and papers for Division Awards and for other ASME honors.

Publicity Committee - publishes the Division newsletters and coordinates publicity work in connection with Divisions Conferences.

Luncheon Committee - arranges the annual Divisions luncheon.

Technology and History Committee - records significant events in the history of railway mechanical engineering and the Division itself.

Special Committees are set up and operate from time to time to enable the Division to achieve specific one-time objectives, or to serve as liaison with headquarters or other divisions in specific areas of concern.
