Your Career, Your Society, Your Division

By joining ASME, you can share in the prestige and the practical benefits conferred by society membership.  In addition to maintaining an 80-year record of technical excellence, the ASME Rail Transportation Division looks after the professional development and well being of its members.  Over 2,500 of ASME’s members specify an interest in rail transportation and nearly 900 indicate railroading as their primary area of interest.  If you’re interested in railroad engineering, the RTD can help you :

  • Broaden your knowledge and keep up with the latest technical developments in railroading, rail transit, and railroad equipment.

  • Meet and exchange ideas with other engineers who share your interests.

  • Increase your professional stature and demonstrate your competence through the preparation and presentation of technical papers.

  • Obtain access to the technical papers written by others, both in railroad mechanical engineering and other mechanical engineering fields.

  • Exercise leadership and sharpen your managerial skills through participation in Division administration and technical committee work.
As an RTD member, you automatically receive the division newsletter. You will also be included in all mailings to members who have an interest in rail transportation issues (e.g., "Call for Papers," specific conference announcements, etc.).

     So put them all together...
