What's going on with the
Sustainable Engineering
Committee?
The Sustainable Engineering Committee
(SE) has emerged in order to adapt to changes
ongoing within ASME, where the T&S Division is
seen as a cross-cutting division.
The SE committee aims to fill the needs and interests of the
T&S Division to deal with issues related to
the impact of technology on the society and
environment from a sustainable
perspective.
The goal of the Committee is to extend
the concept of sustainable development
[1]
into the engineering community and
interested public; discuss and understand its
impact within a technological, social,
economical and political
framework.
|
In coordination
with other ASME Divisions (EED, SED), it promotes
technology assessment, development and application to
the interdependence of communities, systems,
environment and societies and promotes optimal and
effective engineering solutions and tools to enhance,
apply and measure targeted sustainable outcomes.
To obtain more information and news on the committee

Engineering Communities of Practice
(CoP). One can log as an ASME
or non-ASME member. Later, chose the Sustainable
Engineering Community for access.

The mission of the Sustainable
Engineering Committee is to contribute to the
overall goal of ASME and the T&S
Division by
integrating the mechanical engineering profession
with other areas involved with the concept of
sustainable development [1] at the
local, regional and international level from an
engineering perspective.
Our
Goals:
-
To serve as a bridge and
continuously search for opportunities where
the technical knowledge from other ASME
divisions can be brought together and be
linked to sustainable engineering
applications through social, economical and
technological assessment, development and
application.
-
To support the exchange of ideas
among engineers that will lead to the
production and dissemination of significant
information in the field of Sustainable
Engineering.
-
To promote the concept and
application of sustainability in the
mechanical engineering profession by
encouraging technical publication,
organizing programs for technical
presentations and discussions, and
cooperating with other ASME professional
divisions.
-
To generate discussions regarding
technological advancements taking place in
engineering in the areas of improved
efficiency and environment.
[1] As defined by the Brundtland report
"Humanity has the ability to make development
sustainable to to ensure that it meets the needs
of the present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own
needs."
